Emergency Medical Technician

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) enjoy rewarding careers—helping to save lives in the event of illness or injury in response to emergency calls.  They assess injuries, administer emergency medical care and transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities.

For those interested in careers in firefighting, IRSC offers Basic Recruit Fire Academy Career Training for both EMTs and those who are not yet EMTs.

Once You Complete the Program

Graduates of the EMT program are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam.  Upon successful completion of the exam, graduates are awarded the NREMT credential and are eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida.

Getting Started

Selection for the EMT program is on a first-come, first-served basis.  This is based on submission of the requirements outlined in the EMT Application Book.

Illicit drug use, background check, convictions and immunization status may prevent future employment. In addition, externship sites, employers, and regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds, and immunization status.
