Economics
Associate’s Degree
Credits or Hours: 60 credits
Through the Economics track of the River’s Associate in Arts degree, you’ll gain a solid foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and critical thinking. Courses cover essential topics such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics and accounting, equipping you with the skills to analyze complex economic issues and make informed decisions.
Upon completing the program, you can transfer your credits to a four-year baccalaureate program at a university to continue your studies. In addition to work in the private sector, economists find rewarding careers in federal, state, and local government agencies.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing an A.A. on the Economics track, students will be able to:
- Understand Fundamental Economic Principles: Grasp key concepts in macroeconomics and microeconomics, including supply and demand, market structures, fiscal and monetary policies, and economic indicators.
- Apply Quantitative Analysis: Use statistical methods and mathematical models to analyze economic data and interpret real-world economic phenomena.
- Demonstrate Effective Communication: Articulate economic ideas and arguments clearly and coherently in both written and oral forms, suitable for diverse audiences.
- Employ Critical Thinking: Evaluate economic issues critically, considering various perspectives and the broader social, political, and ethical implications.
- Prepare for Advanced Studies: Meet the prerequisites and foundational knowledge required for upper-division coursework in economics or related majors at four-year institutions.
