THIS PROGRAM WILL…
- Give you the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and innovative technologies you need as an entry-level surgical technologist
- Introduce you to legal, ethical and professional issues in the healthcare field
- Prepare you to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

Associate in Science in Surgical Services
Associate Degrees
Credits or Hours: 64 credits
As a surgical services technology student at The River, your coursework will cover topics such as pharmacology and anesthesia, surgical techniques and procedures, with a focus on the surgical specialties.
You’ll also complete three clinical experiences in surgical specialties; these involve rotations in a variety of areas, from pre-operative to post-anesthesia care. Clinical sites include hospitals and outpatient surgery centers within the four-county area.
Licensure Requirements
Completion of The River’s surgical services program makes you eligible to apply to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam in Florida. Please visit the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) website to ensure your eligibility.
CAAHEP Accreditation
The Surgical Services (Technology) Program at Indian River State College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
