Career Training Program
Credits or Hours: 1050 clock hours
Selection for the Pharmacy Technician program is on a first-come, first-served basis based on the completion of the requirements outlined in the Pharmacy Technician Application Booklet.
Note that illicit drug use, background check findings, convictions and immunization status may prevent your future employment. In addition, externship sites and employers may have regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds and immunization status.
Indian River State College offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure in the state of Florida. Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours.
Upon graduating from the Indian River State College Pharmacy Technician program, you may be eligible to obtain a Registered Pharmacy Technician license in Florida. Learn more on the Florida Board of Pharmacy website.
Completion of the Pharmacy Technician requirements also makes you eligible to apply to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in Florida. The PTCB provides the requirements for obtaining and maintaining national pharmacy certification. Eligibility for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in the State of Florida also requires possession of a valid form of identification. Please visit the PTCB website to learn more.
If you choose to reside outside of Florida or one of the compact states after graduation, IRSC cannot confirm whether this degree program meets educational requirements for professional licensure/certification in your state. Some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum.

Help Patients Get the Treatment They Need
Fill a critical role in the health care system as a pharmacy technician working under the supervision of a pharmacist. Your day-to-day work might include measuring, mixing, counting out, labeling and recording amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders.
The River’s pharmacy technician program includes coursework on pharmacology, medication calculations, and more. You will also complete hands-on training in both a community pharmacy and an institutional pharmacy.
Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to sit for a certification exam and work as a pharmacy technician in retail pharmacies or health care settings. Certified pharmacy technicians are in high demand and regularly receive higher pay than their non-certified counterparts.
