The Health Leadership Program is committed to providing youth with the opportunity to participant in a three-week summer program, focused on health-related career and occupational exploration, academic skills improvement, self-awareness development, and social, leadership, and employability skills enhancement. The IRSC Health Leadership Program will provide high school students with opportunities to explore careers in health occupations through hands-on activities, field trips and interactive exercises in a relaxed academic atmosphere. This program will be offered twice during the summer, in two, three-week sessions. During the three-week program students will be exposed to many of the fastest growing careers in the state, which will include Physical Therapist Assistant, Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Medical Lab Technician, Radiography, Pharmacy Technician, Surgical Technician, Dental, and Respiratory Care. Students will also be able to complete a CPR certification, which is valid for two years.
Students will obtain program competencies outlined above through lectures, discussions, A/V materials, reading assignments, an internet research assignment, a personal wellness plan, demonstrations and simulations, observation/ participation in health care activities, guest speakers and field trips. Students may earn stipends/incentives based upon their behavior and classroom performance.
