Applying to the Program
The application for the Fall 2026 program will be available from January 30, 2026 through May 1, 2026.
The Surgical Technology program is a selective-admissions program. Students are selected based on criteria outlined in the Surgical Technology Application Book.
Priority consideration for admission to the program will be given to those who have completed Anatomy and Physiology I and the co-requisite lab (BSC 2085 and BSC 2085L), Anatomy and Physiology II and co-requisite lab (BSC 2086 and BSC 2086L), Microbiology for Health Sciences and co-requisite lab (MCB 2010 and MCB 2010L), and Medical Terminology I (HSC 2531) and other General Education courses before the published application deadline.
Surgical Technology Program
Courses in the Surgical Technology program are held on Massey campus and are face-to-face. The program is full-time with meeting times scheduled four to five times a week and consists of blended coursework, hands-on lab, and clinical components.
Students should be prepared to travel to any of the clinical education sites located within the four-county service district of Indian River State College: St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Indian River counties. The program requires a minimum of 120 documented surgical procedures completed in the first scrub (80) and second scrub role (40) of the surgical technologist with cross-specialty exposure.
Students must complete all degree requirements to graduate and sit for the national certification exam. See the College Catalog for specific requirements for the A.S. in Surgical Services.
Note that illicit drug use, background check findings, convictions and immunization status may prevent your future employment. In addition, externship sites and employers may have regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds and immunization status.
