Indian River State College offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure in the state of Florida. Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours. Student eligibility to apply to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the State of Florida is defined in F.S., 468.302 and also includes possession of a valid form of identification. Please visit the Florida Department of Health website to ensure your eligibility.
Completion of the Radiography program requirements makes you eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Florida.
If you may choose to reside outside of Florida, IRSC cannot confirm whether this degree program meets educational requirements for professional licensure/certification in your state. Some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum. If you wish to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam in another state, contact the regulation of professions and occupations in the state to determine whether this degree will meet their licensure requirements.

Program Highlights:

- Clinical Experience: Gain practical experience through a competency-based clinical education component conducted at healthcare settings in the four-county district. This hands-on training prepares you to perform diagnostic imaging procedures with confidence and professionalism.
Career Pathways:
Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible to sit for the national certifying examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Successful certification opens doors to employment in hospitals, imaging centers and physicians’ offices. Additionally, the program lays the foundation for further specialization in imaging modalities such as ultrasound, CT, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy or magnetic resonance imaging.
Travel Note: You should be prepared to travel to any of the clinical education sites located within the four-county service district of Indian River State College: St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Indian River counties. All clinical education sites are located within a one-hour driving distance from the Massey Campus. You will be expected to arrange travel and other commitments to arrive at class or clinical assignments on time.
Classes in the Radiography program meet four to five days per week for four to eight hours per day, typically beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Clinical rotations generally begin at 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. and end at either 4:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. However, there may be occasions when rotations may be scheduled between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Occasional weekend and evening rotations are required.
Accreditation
The radiography program at IRSC is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). This is the only organization recognized by the United States Department of Education for accreditation of radiography programs.
The most recent on-site visit was in 2017, which resulted in a full eight-year accreditation award. The next accreditation site visit is tentatively scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. General program accreditation information and the current accreditation award letter can be found here.
