HESI A2 Admissions Assessment Exam

The HESI A2 Admissions Assessment Exam is a computer-based test used by the IRSC School of Nursing to assess the academic ability of prospective nursing students. The HESI A2 exam consists of six multiple choice sections (Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Basic Math, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and a Learning Style Assessment). The exam is three hours long.

All applicants will take the HESI A2 exam in person, at the Assessment Center on Massey Campus in Fort Pierce or the Assessment Center on Pruitt Campus in Port St. Lucie. The campus contact information is below:

HESI A2 scores will not be accepted from other schools.

Testing Accommodations Information

The Indian River State College Student Accessibility Services Department provide auxiliary aid services, equipment, reasonable accommodations and academic advisement to students who self-identify as a person with a documented disability.

Approved accommodations from other organizations (i.e. high schools or other colleges) are not transferable.  Students requesting testing accommodations must receive approval from the Indian River State College Student Accessibility Services Department prior to making a HESI testing appointment and/or purchasing the HESI exam.  Please note that the processing time of requests for accommodations may vary.  It is important to plan ahead.

Once approval for testing accommodations is received from the Indian River State College Student Accessibility Services Department students should contact Sarah Saenz, Assessment Specialist at (772) 336-6242 to make a HESI testing appointment and for details about paying for the HESI exam with accommodations.

HESI A2 Frequently Asked Questions

Students have three hours to complete the exam.

    • Current Driver’s License with Photo
    • Current Federal, State, County or Municipality issued ID with photo (includes U.S. Military ID)
    • Current Alien Registration Card (Green Card) with photo
    • Current Passport with recent photo
    • Passport Card
    • Current High School ID
    • Current Indian River State College ID Card

If an ID has an expiration date, it is no longer valid after that date. Also, once an ID is broken into more than one piece or has been cut, it is no longer valid.  An ID printed on paper, photo paper or cardboard cannot be accepted for testing.

Examinees are permitted one attempt per registration period (i.e. one attempt in the fall and one attempt in the summer). Testing attempts not in accordance with this policy will not be used for admission to the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College. No refund will be provided for multiple test attempts during the same registration period.

No, you are only permitted to take the HESI A2 Exam once per application period. 

HESI A2 scores are valid for one year prior to the deadline date and may be taken only once every application period.

(Note: Only IRSC HESI A2 exam scores are accepted by the School of Nursing. They will not accept HESI A2 scores from other schools.)

Any student wishing to be considered for the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College.

Absolutely! Any student who is suspected of any form of academic dishonesty or is acting suspiciously during the HESI A2 exam will be immediately disqualified, lose their exam fee, and forfeit their opportunity to re-apply for any other IRSC Nursing Program. Students are not permitted to have any notes or resources during the exam. They are not allowed to open any other tab(s) on their computer while testing. Cell phones, smart watches or any other electronic device is strictly prohibited. 

The total cost for the HESI A2 is $55. This fee is paid online directly to Elsevier. Please note that there is also a $60 Nursing Program Application and Test Proctoring Fee that must be paid to IRSC prior to testing.  Please bring printed copies of both receipts to the Assessment Center during your HESI testing appointment. 

Students must take the HESI exam in person at Indian River State College. 
 

Yes, the HESI A2 exam has a built-in calculator that will be displayed on your screen. This calculator is the only one you are permitted to use during your HESI A2 exam. All other calculators are prohibited.

Yes, the HESI A2 includes 5 experimental questions in each section, but those questions are not scored.

A score report will be available 48 hours online in your Elsevier account. If you wish to check after exam completion, follow the instructions below.

To find your HESI exam scoring information:

  1. Sign in to your Evolve Account, then click 'HESI Assessment – Student Access'.
  2. Under the 'My Exams' tab locate your exam.
  3. Click 'View Results'.
  4. Click 'Results Report'.

All HESI A2 score reports will be automatically sent to the Indian River State College School of Nursing.
