Dupree Sisters Forge New Paths and Pursue their Dreams

As students returned to Indian River State College last month, IRSC alumnae forged new paths. Sisters Sydney and Sinclaire DuPree both started at Spelman College in Atlanta this fall. Sydney graduated from IRSC with an A.A. in 2020. Sinclaire graduated with her A.A. in 2021.
“IRSC makes the most of its resources,” shares Sydney. “I loved that the theatre department heads gave us a real insight into the industry by offering free workshops and providing Q&A sessions with professional performers. I know for a fact that we learned the same principles taught at big universities.”
Sydney credits her education at IRSC for helping her get accepted into Spelman, but also—after a lengthy and rigorous audition process—accepted into Howard University’s theatre program. “I couldn’t have accomplished that without my experiences at IRSC.”
Sydney’s ultimate goal is to study the arts in every capacity, fine art, digital art, theatre art, and especially performing arts. Her parents founded a nonprofit arts program for teens called Everybody’s Not Doing It! (E.N.D. IT!). She intends to keep expanding their vision and use her connections and education to return as a creative director to create a larger platform for students and extend their reach to more communities.
Sinclaire shares how IRSC allowed her to explore different interests through her classes. “Although you must complete certain requirements such as humanities, English, electives, and math, IRSC offers creative and exciting versions of these classes,” states Sinclaire. “These opportunities make learning exciting and allow the students to explore diverse fields.”
Sinclaire’s long-term career goal is to work in fashion as a director of creative concepts and events. She hopes to orchestrate, feature in, and lead fashion campaigns, shows, cover art, album covers, and more. “I also want to have a skincare and haircare line for people of different and unique skin types.”
We wish Sydney and Sinclaire well as they follow after their dreams!
