Palm City resident Alexandria “Alex” Arnold is being recognized as the Indian River State College October Employee of the Month. Alex first joined the IRSC family as a part-time Registration Assistant I in June 2016 while she was a student in the Bachelor of Science in Human Services program. After graduation, Alex had the opportunity to work as a victim’s advocate for the local State Attorney’s office. As part of that job, Alex often came to the Chastain Campus to set events that promote local family services to students. It was through these events that Alex realized that helping students was a genuine passion. In June 2019, Alex returned to the IRSC Chastain Campus to work full-time as a Financial Aid Advisor I.
Alex is an integral part of the Chastain Campus family, with whom she shares her sincere, calm demeanor—a comfort to students and staff alike. She is always willing to pitch in to help anyone, especially IRSC students. Alex expertly handles the many complexities of the Financial Aid department, has volunteered to take on the role of working with Student Affairs as the student activities liaison to engage students on campus. She also manages the campus’s social media accounts. When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted how the College had to serve students, Alex jumped into action to help ensure that they had the necessary technology to succeed in their classes, contributing a calm and sincere voice during a time of great uncertainty.
Those who work with Alex readily share the positive influence she has on campus. One co-worker affirms, “Alex has a genuine concern for our students.” They continue stating, “She remembers the profound impact that many advisors and staff had on her success and has a deep desire to provide that experience to the students she serves now.” Another adds, “Alex is a dedicated worker and is among the first to arrive on campus each day and one of the last to leave.” Finally, another co-worker says, “Alex’s huge heart and passion for students makes Chastain and IRSC a better place to be.”
