Stuart resident Catherine Pantorno is the Indian River State College April 2020 Staff Employee of the Month. Catherine joined the IRSC family part-time in March 2011 to work as an Instructional Aid. After a short time away, she returned as a Work Study in August 2013 and then to serve as a Work Experience Student in August 2014. Catherine joined IRSC as a part-time Admissions/Records Assistant I in April 2015 before becoming full-time in the same position in December 2015. Catherine earned a promotion to Advisor Specialist I in September 2016 —the position she holds today, assisting IRSC students at the Chastain Campus in Stuart.
Catherine earns the admiration of staff, faculty, and students daily, as she exemplifies the bold statement that greets students on her advising web page: “Be the best version of you.” Her extraordinary dedication to the students she serves as an Advisor Specialist is influenced by her experience as a student at IRSC—when she first experienced River Way. During that time, Catherine became committed to the institution and the community, as she saw students’ lives change for the better.
Catherine is a graduate of the IRSC School of Business, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management. As a native of Fort Pierce, Catherine has the uncanny ability to connect with a diverse student population and provide innumerable equitable solutions to any challenge that could potentially hinder student success. Catherine demonstrates a willingness to go the extra mile. She never hesitates to work extended hours, reach out to faculty for unconventional solutions, or to simply offer a warm smile and a caring ear to students who need encouragement.
Catherine’s co-workers at the Chastain Campus staff are quick to share how her devotion to student success is an inspiring example to others around her. One colleague says, “Catherine has as genuine concern for every student that she touches.” Another shares, “Her dedication to student success is rivaled only by her willingness to go the extra mile—something she demonstrates daily.” Finally, one co-worker adds, “Catherine is a genuine example of the impact one dedicated individual can make on the lives of our students—she is someone that I strive to emulate.”
