Claudia Ruiz is the December 2019 Staff Employee of the Month

Vero Beach resident Claudia Ruiz is being recognized as the Indian River State College December Employee of the Month. Claudia joined the IRSC family part-time serving as a Custodian I in September 2010 and was brought on full-time in the same position in July of 2011. In August 2017 Claudia was promoted to Custodian II—the position she holds today. She primarily serves in Crews Hall, or W Building, which is the first building on campus seen by many new and prospective students.

Custodial staff often work behind the scenes and do not normally interact with students, but their jobs are vital to the operation of the College. Keeping college facilities clean and attractive is an essential component to a healthy, desirable environment, and Claudia works hard in that endeavor. She has an extremely positive attitude and is always smiling when you see her. She is dependable, punctual and is a great role model for her co-workers. Claudia is often selected to train new employees on IRSC Custodial Department standards and practice.

During peak registration months, the W Building has more traffic than any other building on any other campus, yet it always appears pristine thanks in large part to the hard work Claudia does every day. Claudia is always willing to help others, and takes the time to stop and say hello or share a smile with anyone—even while working. Claudia receives many compliments from her co-workers about how nice she keeps her buildings.

Claudia’s co-workers readily share the positive impact she has each day and how she cares deeply about our students. One co-worker shares, “Claudia’s dedication to excellence shines throughout the W Building in every nook and cranny fortunate to receive her meticulous attention.” Another states, “What makes Claudia so special is her personal concern for the welfare of our students, staff, and visitors.” Finally, another colleague adds. “A lot goes on behind the scenes to create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment and Claudia makes it all happen! She deserves recognition for her efforts and positive attitude.”
