Mike Pelitera Named April 2018 Staff Employee of the Month

Port St. Lucie Resident Mike Pelitera, Virtual Campus Instructional Technology Trainer, is being recognized as the Indian River State College April Employee of the Month. Mike starting at IRSC in June 1997 as a Video Production Specialist I before taking the role as a Distance Learning Course Developer and then earning a promotion to E-Learning Course Developer I. Today he serves the College as the Virtual Campus Instructional Technology Trainer, inspiring his coworkers with his enthusiasm and dedication in service to student success at IRSC.
Working as Virtual Campus Technology Trainer, Mike has led many professional development trainings for faculty and staff, establishing himself as the “go-to” person for many full-time and adjunct faculty members needing technical support for WebCT, Angel and Blackboard. Over the past three years, Mike has focused on the proper use of the Grade Center, providing training and support for all IRSC faculty members. Proper use of the Grade Center drives the analytic dashboard needed by instructional deans, athletic coaches, and advisors to monitor student progress. Mike’s efforts to educate faculty on the correct use of the Grade Center has led to a successful implementation of the analytics initiative.
Mike is known to be patient, kind, and always accessible, helping make a smooth transition into the technical learning environment for IRSC faculty. In his spare time, Mike also teaches as an Adjunct Instructor in the Education department, teaching SLS 1101 and Educational Technology courses. His experience teaching has served him well, allowing him to understand faculty’s technology related issues and needs in the classroom.
Those who work with Mike best share how his hard work and dedication to IRSC impact them each day. One co-worker says, “Mike is always available for one-on-one assistance, either through a tutorial online, by phone, or in person.” Another co-worker shares, “Mike always has a positive attitude and demeanor. He is always willing to help faculty and staff with any Blackboard questions they may have and he will go the extra mile looking for innovative ways to educate others on the use of the gradebook and analytics.” Finally, one of Mike’s co-worker’s declares, “I can share with confidence that Mike makes every new College employee he comes across feel like they are part of the IRSC family!”
