Stephanie Gaffney Named October 2018 Staff Employee of the Month

Indian River State College recognizes Port St. Lucie resident Stephanie Gaffney, Program Coordinator
for the Academic Support Center STEM Initiative, Main Campus, as the October 2018 Staff Employee of the Month. Stephanie began working as part
of the IRSC team in August of 2013. In June of 2014 she joined the Academic Support
Center (ASC) team led by Dr. Neila Bird to serve as the Program Coordinator for the
ASC STEM Initiative.
In this role Stephanie is an indispensable part of the ASC team that is responsible for providing extensive resources and instruction to help IRSC students meet the demands of college courses and achieve both their academic and personal goals. Stephanie also coordinates resources in various math and science courses for both student and instructor use. Stephanie routinely checks in with the Math Department to see if departmental changes should be addressed by the ASC lab to better support student success. She also attends the monthly Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) meeting, staying up-to-date on changes being applied and on student-related issues. Stephanie is gifted in dealing with students and was instrumental in the addition and implementation of peer tutors.
Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband and four children. She also volunteers at Exponential Church in Port St. Lucie serving as both the children’s ministry director and business manager.
Stephanie’s co-workers happily recount the many times that she has gone above and beyond to help encourage student success. One such co-worker shares, “Recently we had two students who needed assistance to complete a class, and Stephanie worked with the QEP office and these students to make sure that they completed assignments and took tests. She also assisted them with tutoring to ensure they understood the information to finish their class.” Another states, “Stephanie has gone out of her way to make sure our math students get the help that they need for their courses.” Finally, another co-worker shares, “We truly could not do what we do if it were not for the great support and care Stephanie gives. She is an all-around great employee, person, and friend!”
