Okeechobee resident William “Billy” Childers is the Indian River State College April 2021 Staff Employee of the Month. Billy joined the IRSC family in August 2017 when he began employment in the position of Maintenance I with the Physical Plant team that serves the IRSC Dixon Hendry campus.
Billy is a valued team member on the Dixon Hendry Campus. Ask anyone on campus who the go-to person is for help with a maintenance or facilities issue and they will share Billy’s name without hesitation. Whenever he is needed, Billy will instantly drop what he’s working on to come and assist. He is amazing at all the little details required in his position that many individuals may never see or think about. Even on days when the maintenance staff is down a member, Billy is available and stands in the gap to get whatever is required of the maintenance team accomplished. Billy is the type of individual who does not complain, sharing a smile on his face and a positive attitude no matter what the project may be. He keeps busy all day and will stay until the job is done. Evidence of Billy’s incredible work ethic can be found by looking at the campus grounds which are beautifully maintained at all times. Billy is an encouragement to everyone around him to work hard, lend a hand to serve others and think of our students and how what we do impacts them. He fosters a team-building attitude with the entire Dixon Hendry Staff.
Billy’s co-workers readily share how positive their experience working with him is. One Dixon Hendry staff member shares, “Billy has been an outstanding asset to our campus since the day he was hired!” They continue, “Whenever anyone needs Billy for anything he will instantly come to assist.” Another adds. “I feel Billy should be recognized because his work ethic is truly commendable, he keeps this campus beautiful.” In conclusion, another co-worker shares, “Billy is ‘the man’ on our campus! He is the person you go to if you see something that needs to be fixed or needs help right away. You can always depend on him to assist and get it done right.”
