Dr. Daphne Cooper Named January 2018 Faculty Member of the Month

Port St. Lucie resident Dr. Daphne Cooper, Assistant Professor, Liberal Arts Division, Social Sciences Department,  is being recognized as the Indian River State College January Faculty Member of the Month. Daphne joined the IRSC faculty in January of 2014 as an Assistant Professor, teaching as part of the Social Sciences Department.

Daphne is an integral part of the faculty at IRSC and is known by her colleagues as an excellent instructor who continually challenges her students to relate their coursework to the real world. Daphne’s teaching incorporates active learning, and she dynamically engages her students in the course material. Committed to the success of all of her students, Daphne makes every effort to always be available for them when needed. She continuously endeavors to improve her teaching skills in an effort to find new ways to engage her students.

In addition to her outstanding accomplishments as an instructor, Daphne has taken the opportunity to lend her talents to participate in many College workgroups. Daphne has served on the College’s Student Support Academic Success workgroup, the SLS1101 workgroup, the KPI Completion workgroup, has been a panelist for the Division of Minority Affairs at IRSC on Women in Politics and has volunteered to be an advisor for the Political Science Club. Daphne has had a number of articles published and has authored a chapter for a textbook. Daphne is active in Florida Campus Compact. In addition to these numerous commitments, Daphne has also found the time to volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club of America, Habitat for Humanity as well as the Treasure Coast Chapter of Links.

Daphne’s students have many words of praise for her impact on their learning experience. One student shares about Daphne’s commitment to student success saying, “Dr. Cooper always encourages her students to do their best and is always willing to provide help to her students after class.” Another student states, “she is very talented, intelligent, and a dedicated professor!” Finally another of Daphne’s students elaborates on her passion for teaching saying, “Dr. Cooper is a role model and genuinely wants her students to be informed of events going on around us and truly makes her students appreciate and share her love for teaching political science.”
