HESI A2 ADMISSIONS ASSESSMENT EXAM- SCHOOL OF NURSING

The HESI A2 Admissions Assessment Exam is a computer-based test used by the Indian River State College School of Nursing to assess the academic ability of prospective nursing students. The HESI A2 exam consists of six multiple-choice sections:
Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Basic Math, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and a Learning Style Assessment.
Important Information
- HESI A2 exams are only administered to students who have submitted an Indian River State College application to the Practical Nursing (PN), Bridge to RN Program, or the Associate in Science Degree in Nursing (RN) Program.
- Applicants must test in person.
- There is a fee of $60 for the program application, which includes a proctor fee. Additionally, a $51 fee is payable to Elsevier for the HESI A2 exam. (Please note that the price is subject to change)
- HESI A2 scores will not be accepted from other schools.
- Scores are valid for one year from the date of the most recent test taken. Notify the School of Nursing via email to have previous HESI A2 scores applied to an application: IRSCSONprograminfo@irsc.edu
- The exam is three hours long and must be completed in one sitting.
- All HESI A2 score reports will be automatically sent to the Indian River State College School of Nursing.

A score report will be available 24-48 hours online in your Evolve account.

HESI A2 Frequently Asked Questions
What type of photo ID is acceptable?
A photo ID is required to test.
- Current Driver’s License with Photo
- Current Federal, State, County or Municipality-issued ID with photo (includes U.S. Military ID)
- Current Alien Registration Card (Green Card) with photo
- Current Passport with recent photo
- Passport Card
- Current High School ID
- Current Indian River State College ID Card
If an ID has an expiration date, it is no longer valid after that date. Also, once an ID is broken into more than one piece or has been cut, it is no longer valid. An ID printed on paper, photo paper or cardboard cannot be accepted for testing.

What is the retest policy of the HESI A2?
Examinees are permitted one attempt per registration period (i.e. one attempt in the fall and one attempt in the summer). Testing attempts not in accordance with this policy will not be used for admission to the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College. No refund will be provided for multiple test attempts during the same registration period.
If I am applying to both the P.N. and R.N. programs, can I take the test twice per application period?
No, you are only permitted to take the HESI A2 Exam once per application period.
How long are my HESI A2 scores valid?
Scores are valid for one year from the date of the most recent test taken. Notify the School of Nursing via email to have previous HESI A2 scores applied to an application: IRSCSONprograminfo@irsc.edu
(Note: Only Indian River State College HESI A2 exam scores are accepted by the School of Nursing. They will not accept HESI A2 scores from other schools.)
Who needs to take the HESI A2 exam?
Any student wishing to be considered for the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College.
Is academic integrity important during testing?
Absolutely! Any student who is suspected of any form of academic dishonesty or is acting suspiciously during the HESI A2 exam will be immediately disqualified, lose their exam fee, and forfeit their opportunity to reapply for any other Indian River State College Nursing Program. Students are not permitted to have any notes or resources during the exam. They are not allowed to open any other tab(s) on their computer while testing. Cell phones, smartwatches, or any other electronic devices are strictly prohibited.
Am I allowed to use a calculator for the Math portion of the HESI A2 exam?
Yes, the HESI A2 exam has a built-in calculator that will be displayed on your screen. This calculator is the only one you are permitted to use during your HESI A2 exam. All other calculators are prohibited.
Does this test contain any experimental test questions?
Yes, the HESI A2 includes 5 experimental questions in each section; however, these questions are not scored.
