MATH INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT
Whether you’re with us for a few months or a few years, and no matter if you’re attending on campus or online, Indian River State College is committed to your academic, professional and personal success.

Adding to Your Support
Indian River State College is committed to providing an accessible, affordable education in a supportive environment. Part of that commitment is helping students succeed in all of their coursework, including in areas that are sometimes considered challenging.
Math at the Root of Success (MARS)
As part of a quality enhancement plan (QEP), IRSC redesigned the Intermediate Algebra course (MAT 1033). While not part of the general education requirements, this course is often taken by business and STEM students or those looking to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program.
Delivery Options
MAT 1033 is offered in a variety of flexible formats to help meet students where they are:
- Supplemental – meets in MARS lab with an instructor and a tutor
- Flipped – students complete an assignment prior to meeting in person each week
- Hybrid – meets in the MARS lab with part lecture, part computer time
- Virtual Mastery – fully online version where students successfully complete one assignment before moving to the next
MARS Resources
Along with the QEP redesign, we’ve introduced other components to help our students succeed in Intermediate Algebra. This includes the MARS Computer Lab, a physical location on each campus where students gather for instruction and tutoring.
