MENTORING PROGRAMS
Unlock your potential at Indian River State College. We offer special mentoring initiatives designed to help you thrive in the classroom and beyond.

At Indian River State College, mentoring happens from enrollment through completion. We’re dedicated to helping each student unlock their potential: academically, personally and professionally.
LEAP Ahead at IRSC
One of The River’s mentoring initiatives is the LEAP Program: Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, Persistence. Designed to help first-year students transition to college life, this program helps you build a solid academic and social foundation at IRSC.
LEAP participants connect with peers, collaborate with advisors and build relationships with faculty members through activities like:
- Monthly meetings and seminars
- Tutoring in core subjects
- Fun social and cultural events
The program explores a wide range of topics, from time management and study techniques to goal-setting and self-care.
For more information on LEAP, call 772-462-7862 or email leapprogram@irsc.edu.
Additional Mentoring Programs
IRSC offers two additional mentoring programs designed specifically for students of color.
Men of Color
This program offers an inclusive and supportive space where men of color can receive academic support and mentoring and have the opportunity to engage in social-cultural dialogue that enhances their understanding of self and their relationship to different communities.
MOC students participate in activities such as workshops, community service projects and cultural events that are designed to build character and a sense of community.
For more information about MOC, contact Rochelle Popp-Finch at 772-462-7476 or rfinch@irsc.edu.
Women of Color
Women empowering women! This collaborative, campus-wide program helps students who identify as women of color reach their leadership potential in the classroom and the community.
WOC offers educational enrichment, life skills training, personal development and other activities. Peers and mentors provide essential support that encourages students’ growth and advancement at IRSC and helps them prepare for meaningful careers.
For more information about WOC, contact April Willis at 772-462-7614 or awillis@irsc.edu.

LEAP’s Lasting Impact
“When I was at the bottom and didn’t have money for class materials, LEAP Program Coordinator Jenny Champagne took me to buy clothes, and I’ll never forget that. All I needed was one more chance and she gave that to me.”
Victor Tapia, Barbering
