HESI A2 ADMISSIONS ASSESSMENT EXAM
Florida Civic Literacy Competency Requirement
The HESI A2 Admissions Assessment Exam is a computer-based test used by the IRSC School of Nursing to assess the academic ability of prospective nursing students. The HESI A2 exam consists of six multiple choice sections (Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Basic Math, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and a Learning Style Assessment). The exam is three hours long.

All applicants will take the HESI A2 exam in person, at the Assessment Center on Massey Campus in Fort Pierce or the Assessment Center on Pruitt Campus in Port St. Lucie. The campus contact information is below:

HESI A2 scores will not be accepted from other schools.
Testing Accommodations Information
The Indian River State College Student Accessibility Services Department provide auxiliary aid services, equipment, reasonable accommodations and academic advisement to students who self-identify as a person with a documented disability.
Approved accommodations from other organizations (i.e. high schools or other colleges) are not transferable. Students requesting testing accommodations must receive approval from the Indian River State College Student Accessibility Services Department prior to making a HESI testing appointment and/or purchasing the HESI exam. Please note that the processing time of requests for accommodations may vary. It is important to plan ahead.

HESI A2 Exam Registration Details for the Spring 2026 Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program, Tracks One and Two Applicants
The following items need to be completed before scheduling an appointment to take your HESI A2 exam:
- Apply for the Indian River State College (IRSC) the Spring 2026 ADN Program, Tracks One or Two.
- Pay the $60 IRSC program application fee which includes the test proctoring fee.
- Register and pay the $55 fee for the HESI A2 exam.

How to Register to Take the HESI A2 Exam
Step 1: Apply for the Indian River State College (IRSC) Spring 2026 ADN Program, Tracks One or Two.
Applicants must apply and pay for the Indian River State College (IRSC) Spring 2026 ADN Program, Tracks One or Two before scheduling a HESI A2 Exam appointment. HESI A2 exam appointments scheduled without a completed Indian River State College the Spring 2026 ADN Program, Tracks One or Two application will be canceled.
Step 2: Create an Evolve Account and register for HESI Student Access:
IMPORTANT: If you have approved accommodations from the Student Accessibility Services Department at Indian River State College, Contact Sarah Saenz, Assessment Specialist, at (772) 336-6242 to register for HESI Student Access and schedule your exam appointment.
- Visit https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/
- Choose: I am a student.
- Under the box that says HESI Secured Exams, click Register for Distance Testing
- Click the blue Register button. This will take you to My Cart.
- Click the blue Proceed to Checkout/Redeem button at the bottom of the page.
- Either sign in with your username and password, or create an account by filling in the fields. Note: Your username will be auto-generated and a combination of your first initial, last name, and a number or series of numbers.
- Click Submit
Step 3: Register and pay for your HESI Exam.
- Click My Evolve on the top right page of the screen
- Click Student Access
- Read the Terms and Conditions and click Agree
- Click the Payments tab (on the top left side of the screen)
- Enter the Payment ID: 29426 and continue the billing process until your payment is processed.
Step 4: Schedule your testing appointment:
- HESI A2 exam appointments scheduled without a completed Indian River State College Spring 2026 ADN Program, Tracks One or Two application will be canceled.
- HESI A2 exams are by appointment and can only be taken once during an application period.
- ONLY MAKE ONE TESTING APPOINTMENT. Duplicate appointments will be canceled.
- Appointments may be rescheduled up to 36 hours in advance. After that time, the appointment is locked and can’t be changed. To reschedule your appointment, use the “reschedule” button in the confirmation email.
- Not attending a scheduled testing appointment will invalidate future appointments made during the same application period.
- Appointment options will be available June 1, 2025. The testing dates will begin the week of September 29, 2025. These dates are subject to change.

- Valid Photo ID
- Your username and password for your Evolve account
- Proof of payment for both the $55 HESI fee and $60 Indian River State College Application and Proctoring fee.

How long is the HESI A2 exam?
Students have three hours to complete the exam.
What type of photo ID is acceptable?
- Current Driver’s License with Photo
- Current Federal, State, County or Municipality issued ID with photo (includes U.S. Military ID)
- Current Alien Registration Card (Green Card) with photo
- Current Passport with recent photo
- Passport Card
- Current High School ID
- Current Indian River State College ID Card
If an ID has an expiration date, it is no longer valid after that date. Also, once an ID is broken into more than one piece or has been cut, it is no longer valid. An ID printed on paper, photo paper or cardboard cannot be accepted for testing.

What is the retest policy of the HESI A2?
Examinees are permitted one attempt per registration period (i.e. one attempt in the fall and one attempt in the summer). Testing attempts not in accordance with this policy will not be used for admission to the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College. No refund will be provided for multiple test attempts during the same registration period.
If I am applying to both the P.N. and R.N. programs can I take the test twice per application period?
No, you are only permitted to take the HESI A2 Exam once per application period.
How long are my HESI A2 scores valid?
HESI A2 scores are valid for one year prior to the deadline date and may be taken only once every application period.
(Note: Only IRSC HESI A2 exam scores are accepted by the School of Nursing. They will not accept HESI A2 scores from other schools.)
Who needs to take the HESI A2 exam?
Any student wishing to be considered for the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing programs at Indian River State College.
Is academic integrity important during testing?
Absolutely! Any student who is suspected of any form of academic dishonesty or is acting suspiciously during the HESI A2 exam will be immediately disqualified, lose their exam fee, and forfeit their opportunity to re-apply for any other IRSC Nursing Program. Students are not permitted to have any notes or resources during the exam. They are not allowed to open any other tab(s) on their computer while testing. Cell phones, smart watches or any other electronic device is strictly prohibited.
How much does the HESI A2 Pre-Admission exam cost?
The total cost for the HESI A2 is $55. This fee is paid online directly to Elsevier. Please note that there is also a $60 Nursing Program Application and Test Proctoring Fee that must be paid to IRSC prior to testing. Please bring printed copies of both receipts to the Assessment Center during your HESI testing appointment.
Where can I take my exam?
Students must take the HESI exam in person at Indian River State College.
Am I allowed to use a calculator for the Math portion of the HESI A2 exam?
Yes, the HESI A2 exam has a built-in calculator that will be displayed on your screen. This calculator is the only one you are permitted to use during your HESI A2 exam. All other calculators are prohibited.
Does this test contain any experimental test questions?
Yes, the HESI A2 includes 5 experimental questions in each section, but those questions are not scored.
When will I get my scores?
A score report will be available 48 hours online in your Elsevier account. If you wish to check after exam completion, follow the instructions below.

- Sign in to your Evolve Account, then click ‘HESI Assessment – Student Access’.
- Under the ‘My Exams’ tab locate your exam.
- Click ‘View Results’.
- Click ‘Results Report’.
All HESI A2 score reports will be automatically sent to the Indian River State College School of Nursing.
