The Health Science Academy is an initiative that will provide youth the opportunity to participant in a three-week summer program which focuses on health-related career and occupational exploration, academic skills improvement, self-awareness development, as well as, enhancement of social, leadership and employability skills. The IRSC Health Science Academy enables middle and high school students between the ages of 14-18 the opportunity to explore careers in the health science through hands-on activities, field trips and interactive exercises in a relaxed academic atmosphere. During this three-week program, students will be exposed to many of the fastest-growing careers in the State which include Physical Therapist Assistant, Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Medical Lab Technician, Radiography, Pharmacy Technician, Surgical Technician, Dental and Respiratory Care.
Students participating in this program have the opportunity to earn a weekly stipend!
Participant Eligibility: Incoming middle and high school students, Ages 14-18 (graduating seniors are not eligible for summer academy). Student must be a resident of Okeechobee County.
Transportation: Students are not provided transportation to and from program.
Deadline: Program application deadline is Thursday, May 4, 2023.
