IRSC Team Earns Top Honors at HOSA International Leadership Conference

Indian River State College (IRSC) students excelled in competition during the HOSA 42nd Annual International Leadership Conference held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort June 19 through June 23. More than 11,500 people attended the annual conference where 8,100 future health professionals competed in HOSA competitive events including an inaugural U.S. Surgeon General 5k Fun Run/Walk.
IRSC students returned from the international conference with two gold medals, two bronze medals, and four recognition awards. Additionally, two IRSC HOSA students received certificates, pins, and the distinction as top 10 finalists for two National Geographic Learning Academic Testing events. One student was recognized as a top 15 finalists in another academic testing event.
The following are each of the recognitions and awards earned by the IRSC HOSA team at the 2019 HOSA International Leadership Conference.
Victoria Buezo, Port St. Lucie
- Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking: 3rd Place—Bronze Medal
- HOSA Happenings (Newsletter and Publication): Earned Top 10 Finalists—Recognition Pin and Certificate
Sabby Hightower, Vero Beach
- Barbara James Service Award: 1st Place—Gold Medal (volunteered 300+ hours between VNA Hospice and Treasure Coast Community Health)—Received Recognition Pin and Certificate
- Leadership Event (Healthy Lifestyle): Earned Top 10 Finalists
- S. Surgeon General’s 5K Run: Placed 15th out of 200 competitors
Aeyanna Lucero, Okeechobee
- Leadership Event (Extemporaneous Health Poster): 1st Place—Gold Medal
- National Geographic Learning Academic Testing (Medical Math): Earned Top 10 Finalists—Recognition Pin and Certificate
Dieuliette Joseph, Fort Pierce
- Health Science Event (KT—Behavioral Health): Earned Top 5 Finalists
- National Geographic Learning Academic Testing (Human Heredity): Earned Top 15 Finalists
- HOSA University 201: Local Officers—Certificate
Kayla Senger, Port St. Lucie
- Medical Spelling: 3rd Place—Bronze Medal
- National Geographic Learning Academic Testing (Anatomy and Physiology): Earned Top 10 Finalists—Recognition Pin and Certificate
In addition to these exceptional student recognitions, Emlyn Anderson, IRSC Master Instructor and HOSA Advisor, received two Certificate of Excellence awards for HOSA team members ranking among the Top 10, one Certificate of Excellence for Anatomy and Physiology and one Certificate of Excellence for Medical Math.
