Dr. Kimberly Milner Recognized with the Ann R. Snyder Department Chair Excellence Award

FORT PIERCE, FL—Indian River State College (IRSC) recognized Dr. Kimberly Milner, Gateway Mathematics Department Chair, with the Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Excellence Award. This award is presented to a department chair who exhibits outstanding leadership, contributes toward the achievement of the College mission, demonstrates curricular innovation, and is committed to student success and completion. Dr. Milner received the honor during the annual faculty welcome back ceremony held in McAlpin Fine Arts Center on the College’s Massey Campus in Fort Pierce held on Wednesday, August 11.

Dr. Milner demonstrates a passion for her profession felt by both her students and fellow educators. As department chair, she is goal-orientated and dedicated to the betterment of IRSC students and instructors. As a leader, Dr. Milner provides support to her colleagues to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to succeed in their personal life and in the classroom.

Under Dr. Milner’s leadership, Gateway Mathematics had an instrumental in IRSC’s recertification as a “Leader College” by the Achieving the Dream National Network—recognizing the College’s sustained and aggressive efforts resulting in improved student success and equity.

Dr. Milner’s accomplished 21-year career with IRSC includes her climb from part-time adjunct instructor to Professor. In 2011 she was awarded the J. Douglas Stephens Endowed Teaching Chair in Technology, and she has served as the Gateway Mathematics Department Chair since 2015.

A Fort Pierce resident, Dr. Milner received her Bachelor’s of Science in Computer and Information Science from Troy State University, her Master’s of Science in Educational Technology from Walden University, and her Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology from Old Dominion University.

Dr. Milner was selected from among nominations submitted by her peers—full-time and adjunct faculty members—and received a $1,000 stipend and a plaque commemorating this distinction.

About the Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Leadership Program

The Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Leadership Program was established through a partnership between the Indian River State College Foundation and the estate of the late Anne R. Snyder, managed by William Donovan, CPA, as a unique program for promoting excellence and leadership of Indian River State College Department Chairs. This innovative program has two components: The Anne R. Snyder Chair Leadership Academy, which provides leadership training for IRSC Department Chairs, and the Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Excellence Award.
