2023 IRSC Math Olympics Winners Announced

FORT PIERCE—Indian River State College has announced the winners of the 2023 Math Olympics competition held April 14 at the Massey Campus in Fort Pierce.

In the individual competition, Braden Southwick from Martin County High School placed first, while Ricardo Rivera placed second. First place in the team competition went to Martin County Gold, whose team members included Matthew Kot, Ricardo Rivera, Braden Southwick, and Sophie Araque-Liu. The second place team was St. Edward’s High School, whose members include J.P. Caffrey, Jack Eidemueller, M.K. Watson, and Jessica Jiang.

The competition began in the morning with individual exams of 40 questions assessing mastery of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. The team competition followed with 10 question exams, awarding extra incentives for first responders.

Eight teams from St. Lucie, Martin, and Indian River counties participated. They include teams from Centennial High School, Clark Advanced Learning Center, Lincoln Park Academy, Martin County High School, The Pine School, St. Edwards School, South Fort High School, and Treasure Coast High School. The event was hosted by the IRSC Mathematics Department.

Winners went home with gift bags filled with gift cards, candy, figurines, pencils, puzzles, games, and snacks. Participants also toured the Massey Campus and networked with college instructors.
