In light of how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected the lives St. Lucie County residents, the Basil L. King Scholarship Foundation has extended its deadline for scholarship applications to June 30.
“More than ever, we need to encourage careers in medical and allied health professions,” says Jimmie Anne Haisley, Executive Director of the Basil L. King Scholarship Foundation. “Extending the deadline to June 30 gives more time for St. Lucie County residents who are interested in pursuing careers in the health sciences to apply for these scholarships.”
The Foundation Board hopes that the application extension will inspire future doctors, nurses and others interested in health professions, who have experienced enormous changes in their lives due to the Coronavirus outbreak, to hold fast in their educational pursuits. It also hopes that the availability of financial support will attract new interest in these professions.
Basil L. King Scholarships are for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students must be St. Lucie County residents who are already accepted into programs in medical or allied health professions at two- or four-year institutions, or in physician programs, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher on their most recent academic transcript.
The Basil L. King Scholarship Foundation application is available online at http://www.blksf.org. For more information about the scholarship program, contact Latrice Thomas at lthomas@irsc.edu or 772-462-7246.
