IRSC Launches Employer Residency Program to Connect Area Employers with Students

September 24, 2020 Robert Lane

Indian River State College (IRSC) Career and Transfer Services (CTS) has launched an outstanding new opportunity for area employers to connect with IRSC students. The IRSC Employer Residency Program provides a professional development platform where students gain real-time feedback from business and community leaders as they build interviewing, networking and job search skills. At the same time, the program connects local employers with some of the most qualified and promising employees in the region—soon-to-be IRSC graduates.

IRSC Career and Transfer Services has announced its Employer Residency Program

“The Employer Residency Program connects employers and students in an experience that readies our students to walk into a job interview with a sharp resume and a clear understanding of the company and the industry.” shares Dr. Calvin Williams, IRSC Director of Career and Transfer Services.

Dr. Calvin Williams, IRSC Director of Career and Transfer ServicesEmployers involved with the IRSC Employer Residency Program participate in informational meetings where students can ask questions about the company and specific jobs within the organization and their industry. Students gain valuable insight from employers, including ways to improve their employment prospects and strategies to achieve long-term career goals. The regularly scheduled sessions are actively promoted to IRSC students and take place in-person or through virtual platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

The program offers additional opportunities for area business. Among them are increased visibility with IRSC students, faculty and staff; maintaining an on-campus presence; career and professional development; mentoring opportunities; and the chance to give back and help student development for future workforce needs.

“The heart of this program is providing our students valuable one-on-one interaction with local employers,” states Williams. “This is a great opportunity for IRSC to connect our students with the people and opportunities that can help them build their futures.”
