IRSC Recognizes Top Student Athletes and Pioneer Hall of Fame Inductee

FORT PIERCE—Indian River State College (IRSC) Athletics recognized the outstanding contributions of student-athletes to their sports and the College’s storied athletic program during the 2022-2023 season during the annual IRSC Athletic Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 13 held in Bailey Auditorium on the IRSC Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex. Additionally, the program inducted Brad Tandy into the Pioneer Hall of Fame.

Indian River Pioneer Pride Award:
Awarded to a member of each athletic team, the Pioneer Pride Award honors IRSC student athletes for their demonstration of outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season.

The River Sportsmanship Award highlights community support of IRSC student athletes with recognition for their exceptional goal to succeed while demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season.

The 2023 Pioneer Hall of Fame Inductee:
Brad Tandy is the 2023 inductee to the IRSC Pioneer Hall of Fame. Tandy’s accomplished swimming career spans two decades. As a youth swimmer, Tandy was the South African team captain for the 2007 Youth Olympic Games. He went on to compete at six World Championships, two Commonwealth Games, two Olympic Games, and multiple World Cup Circuits and was drafted as a professional swimmer in the ISL League. Between 2013 and 2022, Tandy won numerous South African National Championships in short- and long-course competitions. Tandy held a Top 10 world ranking from 2014 through 2019 in the 50M freestyle. He earned honors as a 2017 inductee into the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame.

Tandy earned his Associate in Arts degree from IRSC in 2013. While on the IRSC swim team, Tandy was named the 2012 Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Male Athlete of the Year, the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Male Swimmer of the Year. Tandy was also the NJCAA National Record Holder in the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle events, was a member of 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle NJCAA National Record setting relays, and was a 12-Time NJCAA All-American team member.

Tandy earned his Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona in 2016. as a memer of the University of Arizona swim team, Tandy earned the title of NCAA National Champion in the 50 Yard Freestyle (2014), PAC 12 Champion in the 50 Yard Freestyle (2014 and 2015), and a 4-Time NCAA All-American. Tandy also is the PAC 12 Record Holder in 50 Yard Freestyle and 200 Medley Relay and a U.S. Open Gold Medalist in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
