FORT PIERCE—In a testament to their camaraderie, competitive spirit, and dedication to student success, the members of the Indian River State College (IRSC) women's swimming and diving team were recognized as Academic All-Stars at the January 2023 IRSC District Board of Trustees meeting. The student-athletes were conferred the high honor for achieving the highest grade-point average (GPA) for any athletic team at the College during the Fall 2022 semester.

IRSC Women's Swimming and Diving team are the 2023 Academic All-Stars

The 25-member team earned an average 3.28 GPA, resulting in the third consecutive year for the women's swimming and diving team to recive the coveted recognition known among Pioneers on campus as the Skull Award. Additionally, four team members—Nanami Lillie, Gina Miller, Katelyn Owl and Madison Price—hold a 4.0 GPA.

“I am immensely proud of the academic achievement of our women’s team represented by this award," declared Sion Brinn, IRSC Head Swim Coach. “The continued success of this team—both the classroom and the pool—well represent the high standards set by IRSC Athletics for our student-athletes.”

This year the women’s team continues to thrive under the leadership of Head Swim Coach Sion Brinn, Head Diving Coach David Suba, and Assistant Swim Coach Manny Noguchi. The women's team currently holds 44 overall NJCAA Championship titles and 40 consecutive wins. They will defend their winning streak at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA) Swimming & Diving National Championships on March 1 through 4, 2023, in Buffalo, New York.

Congratulations to these young Pioneers for their outstanding academic achievement!
