Indian River State College Men’s Basketball team member Linton Brown has been named the 2020–21 Male Athlete of the Year by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA). The Executive Board for Council for Athletic Affairs announced Brown's selection on July 7. His honor is among the highest accolades for the season from the organization for Florida student-athletes and teams.
“The entire IRSC Athletic department is so proud to see Linton awarded this top honor from the FCSAA,” shares Scott Kimmelman, IRSC Athletics Director. “His outstanding performance throughout the regular and post-season was inspiring, and Linton is among the greatest representatives of true IRSC Pioneer spirit.”
Brown led IRSC to the Southern Conference Championship and an appearance in FCSAA State Championship Game, aiding the Pioneers to earn their at-large berth to NJCAA Tournament—the team's first trip to Hutch since 1975. At the tournament, they advanced to the National Quarterfinals. Among other highlights of Brown has been named National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) First-team All-America, FCSAA Player of the Year.
Nominees for Male and Female Athletes of the Year were selected from the Player of the Year recipient from each FCSAA-sanctioned sport, as well as any nominees submitted from non-FCSAA sanctioned sports such as swimming and diving, golf, soccer, and track, and field.
