May 6, 2019 Robert Lane
The Indian River State College (IRSC) Performing and Visual Arts Department invites the public to bring their blankets and lawn chairs and attend the free summer cabaret, “Salute to Contemporary Broadway: The Music of Stephen Schwartz,” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. Viewing for this show will be from the lawn outside the McAlpin Fine Arts Center on the IRSC Main Campus located at 3200 Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce. Tickets are not required for this complementary performance.
IRSC Musical Theatre performers will present a spectacular summer cabaret focusing on the music of contemporary Broadway and film composer Stephen Schwartz. His creative works include the musicals “Godspell,” “Children of Eden,” and “Pippin” as well as movie credits including Disney’s “Pocahontas” and “Prince of Egypt.” One of Schwartz’s best-known contributions to date is from the smash hit show, “Wicked.” These shows—and more—will be featured in this memorable performance.
During the Summer, the McAlpin theatre will undergo renovations and reopen for the 2019-20 Performing Arts season this fall. For more information call the IRSC Box Office at 772-462-4750.
