Vero Beach resident Katie Profeta is the Indian River State College August 2022 Team Member of the Month. Katie started at IRSC as a Virtual Campus Technician in May 2014, quickly moving up to Instructional Designer in 2018. Today, she leads all online instruction for IRSC as the Director of Digital Program Development and Services.

Katie is an outstanding employee, co-worker, and valued asset to Indian River. She has a genuine, Pioneering spirit and shares a positive attitude with those around her. As an instructional designer, Katie won four national Blackboard awards and an Endowed Teaching Chair, published articles, and presented at conferences and the Institute for Academic Excellence. Katie stays abreast of online learning trends by participating in webinars and obtaining relevant certifications. She designed three Virtual Course Instructor Training modules to prepare first-time online instructors for the digital classroom. Katie is the go-to person when faculty members need assistance with online teaching. She also champions the push for accessibility, working directly with faculty to create quality online courses, and collaborates with other departments on numerous campus initiatives.

In addition to her official duties, Katie is active in the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC), where she helps direct chapter functions and projects. Katie is one of the key contributors to the numerous Chapter of the Year awards due to her lead role in documenting the IRSC AFC Chapter’s events in the annual scrapbook.

One of Katie’s colleagues shares how Katie strives to include everyone in all she does. “Katie works extremely hard to ensure courses are ready for students in Blackboard, championing accessibility for all at IRSC.” They add, “Katie serves on the Diversity, Inclusion, Communication, and Education Professional Learning Community (PLC) in the Institute of Academic Excellence, where she advocates and promotes accessibility in the framework of diversity, inclusion, and equity.”
