IRSC Performing Arts Program Announces Fall Season

August 9, 2018 Robert Lane

The Indian River State College Performing and Visual Arts Department announces its Fall 2018-19 season—including the seven show McAlpin OnSTAGE! subscription series. Subscription sales for the McAlpin OnSTAGE! series start August 15, and individual ticket sales start September 4.

This season of shows, concerts, and musical theater offers a variety of memorable performances and opens with the variety concert That’s Entertainment! (Oct. 18, 19 and 20). Comedies such as Harvey by Mary Chase (Nov. 8, 9, and 20) and the classic play The Odd Couple (March 28, 29, and 30) by comedy genius Neil Simon are also are included in the series. The season highlight is the IRSC Performing Arts Program production of the musical Into the Woods (Feb. 14, 15 and 16)—a sophisticated and captivating musical weaving the fantastical characters of legends and storybooks into a haunting and timeless tale of desire, human forgiveness, and eternal hope.

Featuring seven shows for $70, the McAlpin OnSTAGE! series provides the best variety and value of shows available anywhere on the Treasure Coast. Series shows are performed in the IRSC McAlpin Fine Arts Center, a 639-seat venue featuring a proscenium stage and orchestra pit, located on the Main Campus in Fort Pierce. Individual tickets to McAlpin OnSTAGE! shows can be purchased starting September 4 for $15.

Shows not a part of the subscription series will also available during the season, including a special one-show-only performance of A Holiday Spectacular! (Sat., Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.). In this seasonal favorite, under the direction of Dr. John Southall, the IRSC Wind Ensemble presents a celebration of the most heartwarming holiday music of our time concluding with an audience “sing-along.”

Those who enjoy a more immersive theater experience won’t want to miss taking in a show at the Wynne Black Box Theatre—a flexible and intimate 100-seat theater that allows the audience to surround the stage. Shows at the Wynne include an original IRSC Theatre dramatic piece Strange Truths (Nov. 28, 29 and 30), and the beloved Neil Simon comedy The Star-Spangled Girl (Jan. 31, Feb 1 and 2).

The seven-show McAlpin OnSTAGE! subscription series is $70. Individual tickets for McAlpin OnSTAGE! are $15 each. Tickets to non-series shows are $5 or $15. Tickets for all shows can be purchased online at www.irsc.edu or at the IRSC box office (Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) or by phone.

The IRSC box office is located on the Main Campus at 3209 Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce.
