Indian River State College is recognizing Palm City resident Dr. Gary Shaver as the January Faculty Member of the Month. Gary joined the IRSC faculty in August of 1994 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. Today he serves as Professor leading the Radiography program in the Health Science Division.
Committed to student success, Gary’s expertise in the field of Radiography is valued by his students and is well-respected both among his colleagues in the Health Science Division and nationally among his peers in the field of radiography. Gary provides superb instruction for IRSC Radiography program students which is made evident through consistently positive student course evaluations, more than 20 years of 100% pass rates by program graduates on their national exams, and a better than 98% job placement rate for graduates.
Gary earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Recreation and Physical Education from Fairmont State College, as well as Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration with a Minor in Healthcare Administration. He completed his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University in 2003. Gary holds radiography credentials that include a certificate of completion from the West Virginia University Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, as well as Florida Department of Health Certification as a Radiologic Technologist. He is included in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.
An avid world traveler, Gary and his wife have toured extensively throughout Europe, island-hopped in the South Pacific and most recently traveled to Africa. He is a devoted grandfather of two and enjoys the company of his two dogs, Bailey and Gracie.
Gary’s students readily share about his impact on their education and he advocates for their success. One such student shares, “Dr. Shaver continuously puts students’ needs first. He is always available for questions and assistance.” Another adds, “Dr. Shaver goes above and beyond to ensure everyone in class is confident in the material presented.” Finally another student adds, “Dr. Shaver is an amazing professor; he is caring and always approachable, I am so glad that I am in his program!”
