John serves as the lead faculty member and department chair for the Public Administration department. He teaches classes for the Bachelor's of Science in Public Administration Degree program in the two available course concentrations—Public Policy and Leadership, and Emergency Planning and Management. A practiced instructor in any classroom format, John has particularly honed his proficiency as an instructor in the online and blended formats so many Public Administration students’ schedules demand. He shares that knowledge and experience with all College faculty as a Certified Peer Reviewer of online courses for Quality Matters. Not only does John teach, but as the department chair, he serves in many varied roles for his program. John schedules classes, advises students, finds adjuncts, and also reaches out to potential students as an advocate for the Public Administration program at IRSC.

In addition to John’s responsibilities as an instructor and department chair, he is a faculty representative on the Presidential Search Committee, serves on the Virtual Campus Workgroup, Critical Thinking Professional Learning Community, and the Online Teaching and Learning Professional Learning Community. He has also served on the Faculty Excellences workgroup responsible for the development of a new faculty evaluation process and criteria. John is actively involved in the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) IRSC Chapter, and served as chapter President in 2018. He additionally serves on the AFC Membership Committee and Faculty Commission and is co-advisor to the Pre-Law Pioneers.

John’s students best share how he works with them to achieve their goals. One student says, “Professor Donohue is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He has a way of making you think on your own and work through details.” Another student adds, “Dr. Donohue’s Leadership was my favorite class this semester. I never thought I’d love a class so much!” Finally, one student states, “Professor Donohue is a great instructor! He is always easy to communicate with and very helpful. He is passionate about the subjects he teaches and focused on student success.”
