Michael Vogt Named October 2018 Faculty Member of the Month

Indian River State College is recognizing Port St. Lucie resident Assistant Professor Michael Vogt as the October Faculty Member of the Month. Michael joined the IRSC faculty as an Instructor in May 2006 serving with the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program in the Health Science Division. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in August 2014.
Mike’s work supporting student success is demonstrated by a 90% MLT department average on course success alongside a 75% completion rate last year. Additionally, his students earned a 100% licensure/certification rate and job placement rate. Mike continually seeks to help others in a team-oriented environment, assisting other departments with online Blackboard support, exam view and E-instruction guidance, as well as in many other areas. He is a member of Completion Committee Workgroup, serves on the Employee Recognition committee, and is the key advisor for the IRSC MLT club. Mike participates each year in Great Explorations where he shares positive benefits of getting an education at IRSC. His efforts produce results, with past Great Explorations participants now enrolled in the MLT program and other IRSC Health Science programs.
Outside of his work responsibilities Mike also volunteers as a master surfing instructor at the Surfers for Autism event held at Cocoa Beach and Stuart Beach. This event provides positive activities for families and children with Autism—with more than 200 children on the Autism Spectrum attending each year. Mike demonstrates a positive attitude about the College, continually encouraging those he encounters with all the advantages of an education from IRSC.
Mike’s students are always ready to share how he puts their success first in all he does. One of his students declares, “Professor Vogt is a man with a plan. A plan that enables his students to be as successful as possible. He has high expectations for his students!” Another shares, “Professor Vogt prioritizes student success, and he goes above and beyond to ensure that we are not only learning the information, but are able to utilize the information in a clinical setting.” Lastly, one student states how Mike makes a positive impact beyond his classroom saying, “The selfless service Mr. Vogt provides to the college and community changes lives every day.”
