July 29, 2021 Robert Lane

Join the Indian River State College (IRSC) Performing Arts program for the 2021–22 season and enjoy a full series of outstanding theater, music, and choral experiences presented by IRSC students. Featuring seven shows for $70, the McAlpin OnSTAGE! series provides the best variety and value of shows available anywhere on the Treasure Coast. Individual tickets for McAlpin OnSTAGE! shows can be purchased starting on September 7.

There is Magic to do at the McAlpin!

Season renewals are underway, and subscriptions for the series are available starting on August 16. Series shows are performed in the McAlpin Fine Arts Center, a 620-seat venue featuring a proscenium stage and orchestra pit, located on the IRSC Massey Campus in Fort Pierce.

This year, the seven-show McAlpin OnSTAGE! subscription series opens with the chilling stage adaptation of Dorothy Macardle’s classic ghost story The Uninvited (Oct. 28, 29 & 30). The series then brings music to life with This One’s For You! (Nov. 18, 19 & 20) and the return of the seasonal favorite Home for the Holidays (Dec. 2, 3 & 4) McAlpin Music performances.

Ring in the new year with laughter and see an exceptional presentation of Moliere’s The Imaginary Invalid(Jan. 13, 14 & 15). In honor of his 400th birthday, this classic comedy features a flashy new update set to the groovy vibes and tunes of 1969. Then hear the IRSC Company Singers, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo perform Sing, Sing, Sing! (Feb. 17, 18 & 19) featuring classic big band, Broadway, and popular music.

This season’s highlight celebrates the 50th anniversary of the classic Fosse musical masterpiece Pippen(March 10, 11 & 12) as Charlemagne’s son searches for meaning in his life. The seven-show series concludes with From Classical To Contemporary (April 7, 8 & 9), a performance of classical and contemporary music spanning over 60 years with rousing Broadway “Pops” selections.

Shows not a part of the subscription series are also available throughout the season. This year, additional shows include Journeys: An Evening Of One-Act Plays (Sept. 23, 24 & 25), From Stage To Screen: Two Modern-Day Morality Plays (April 1 & 2), and Intimate Apparel (May 19, 20 & 21)—three unique productions in the Wynne Black Box Theatre, a flexible and intimate 100-seat venue that allows the audience to surround the stage.

Other shows include Dr. Rieth Presents Piano Concert (Jan. 8) and Port St. Lucie Community Band performances Dec. 8, Feb. 23 & March 30—a series of concerts under the direction of Dr. John Southall dedicated to the Treasure Coast community.

The seven-show McAlpin OnSTAGE! series costs $70. Additional shows can be added to a subscription for just $10. Individual tickets for McAlpin OnSTAGE! are $15 each. Tickets to non-series shows are $5 or $15. Starting on September 7, individual tickets for all shows will be available for purchase online at www.irsc.edu, by phone, or the IRSC box office.

The IRSC box office is located in the McAlpin Fine Arts Center Lobby on the IRSC Massey Campus at 3209 Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce and is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For the convenience of patrons, the box office is open one hour prior to performance time for ticket sales and to pick up “will call” tickets. Call the box office at 1-800-220-9915 to reserve your seats, as shows can sell out quickly.
