Alessandro Anzalone Elected to National Community College Hispanic Council

STUART—Dr. Alessandro Anzalone, President of Indian River State College’s Chastain Campus since 2021, has been elected to the 2022-2023 Board of Directors for the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC).

Established in 1985 as an affiliate of the America Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the NCCHC is the nation’s premier organization for preparation and support of Hispanic leaders in America’s community colleges. The non-profit professional organization is committed to delivering high quality leadership development experiences and providing Hispanics with opportunities to continue their personal and professional grown.

“Leading the governance of this organization is a priority that our board members embrace as they work to guide the continued development of the Hispanic Community College Leadership in the United States,” said 2022-2023 NCCHC President Dr. Jose Fierro.

Dr. Anzalone began his career in higher education in 1993 as an assistant professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica Antonio José de Sucre, a public technical university in Venezuela, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. After completing his Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering at New York University, Dr. Anzalone began teaching in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of South Florida (USF) and performing research in Artificial Intelligence in Process Control. He earned his Doctoral Degree in Chemical Engineering at USF in 2006. From 2009-2021, he taught at Hillsborough Community College’s Brandon, Florida, campus, serving as Dean of Associate in Science Programs from 2016-2019, and Interim Brandon Campus President from 2019-2021.

“The NCCHC Leadership Fellows Program has been by far the best leadership program I have ever attended,” Dr. Anzalone said. “By serving as a Board member, I get to interact frequently with other community college leaders from the United States, learning about their programs and how to improve our programs, operations, and services to better support all of our students.”
