Maria Johnson Named IRSC Dixon Hendry Campus Director

OKEECHOBEE, FL—Indian River State College (IRSC) has announced the appointment of Maria Johnson as Campus Director for the IRSC Dixon Hendry Campus in Okeechobee. Johnson began her career with IRSC in 2012, progressively advancing in her responsibilities. She has held roles including Financial Aid/Career and Transfer Specialist, Farmworker Program Specialist, Project Coordinator, and GED Technical Assistant.

She will add tremendous value to our students and the community in her new role.”

Working with Student Success, Johnson has gained a variety of experience recruiting in the rural areas of the Okeechobee community—where student prospects depend on genuine one-on-one connections and value trust and a sense of belonging. Her innovative and collaborative work reflects her skills in communicating with students on a grassroots level.

“I have served in higher education at Indian River State College for nearly a decade,” shares Johnson. “As a seasoned student affairs professional, I know that every constituent of Okeechobee County deserves equitable educational opportunities.”

Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in Health Education (2016) and Associate in Arts Degree (2012) the University of Florida (UF). She will complete her Master of Education in Student Personnel in Higher Education from UF in 2023.
