STUDENT STANDARDS OF CONDUCT

The College regards its students as mature individuals capable of accepting responsibility for their actions. To support a safe and efficient learning environment, the following regulations were developed collaboratively by students, faculty, and staff, and align with state and county laws.
Violations of these regulations will be referred to the Associate Vice President of Student Life, who may convene the Student Affairs Committee to determine appropriate action. Students are required to respond to official summonses issued by letter, phone call, or message delivered by an Indian River State College employee regarding matters of conduct. Failure to do so constitutes a violation of the Student Standards of Conduct. For more information, please refer to the Student Handbook.
In accordance with District Board of Trustees Policy Number PO5200, all students who enroll at Indian River State College accept the responsibility to comply with College policies and the laws of the State of Florida. Enrollment signifies each student’s agreement to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the College’s mission as an educational institution.
The Student Standards of Conduct apply on campus, at off-campus College-sponsored activities, and when using College facilities or equipment. Students are expected to be familiar with these policies and to uphold the highest moral and ethical standards of behavior, including but not limited to the following:
Student Responsibilities
As members of the Indian River State College community, students are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and respect. Each student agrees to:
- Abide by all College policies and procedures
- Respect the right of every student to learn in all educational environments.
- Participate fully and responsibly in class discussions and activities.
- Use College facilities, equipment, and electronic communications responsibly.
- Demonstrate respect toward faculty, staff, administrators, and other College personnel.
- Adhere to instructor grading policies and uphold the highest standards of academic honesty.
- Cooperate with reasonable requests for student assistance or service by College personnel whenever possible.
- Extend courtesy, integrity, and good citizenship to all members of the College community.
- Refrain from activities or conduct that may disrupt or discredit the College, its employees, students, or visitors.
Student Misconduct
Students are subject to disciplinary action for misconduct in the following categories:
- Dishonesty, such as cheating, plagiarism, or knowingly furnishing false information to the College.
- Forgery, alteration, or misuse of College documents, records, or identification.
- Obstruction or disruption of teaching, research, administration of disciplinary procedures, or other College activities, including its public service functions, or conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any such persons.
- Theft or damage to property of the College or of a member of the College community or campus visitor.
- Unauthorized entry to or use of College facilities.
- Violation of College policies or of campus regulations including campus regulations concerning the registration of student organizations; the use of College facilities; or the time, place, and manner of public expressions.
- Consumption, use, possession, distribution or involvement with alcohol, illegal drugs, or substances, (e.g., heroin, cocaine, LSD, barbiturates, hallucinogens, narcotics, marijuana) or presence when/ where these substances are being used or consumed.
- Disorderly conduct or lewd, indecent, or obscene conduct or expression on College-owned property or at College-supervised functions.
- Failure to comply with directions of College officials acting in the performance of their duties.
- Conduct which adversely affects the student’s suitability as a member of the academic community. Students who aid others in disciplinary infractions are also subject to disciplinary action.
- Acts of sexual assault/battery (rape) or other forms of sexual misconduct, including harassment, exploitation, intimidation, or coercion.
- Inappropriate use or divulgence of student technology credentials (usernames and passwords) is strictly prohibited. To gain access to Indian River State College’s network, systems and data, authorized users are given credentials (ID and password). It is expected that students will follow these password requirements:
- Students are accountable for all activities associated with their user IDs and passwords (credentials).
- Students must keep their passwords secure and confidential. Sharing credentials is prohibited.
- Students are prohibited from attempting to circumvent authentication and/or security of any computer, host, network, or application account.
