Program Overview

Indian River State College offers several degrees and certificates that lead to professional licensure in the State of Florida. For radiographers, licensure requires successful completion of a recognized educational program and a passing score on the national certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the ARRT certification examination. .

Licensure and Certification

Graduates of the Radiography program are eligible to take the ARRT national certification examination. The ARRT certification is recognized in all 50 states; however, some states—including New York and California—require additional certification or state-specific exams. If you plan to pursue licensure outside of Florida, please contact the appropriate state licensing agency to review specific state requirements.

Find state licensing information, contacts for state radiation control program offices and states that license or regulate by modality.

Program Highlights

  • Comprehensive Coursework: Topics include radiographic procedures, pathology, patient care, radiation safety and protection, and radiographic physics.
  • Clinical Education: Competency-based training at affiliated healthcare facilities within Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties. Clinical rotations prepare students to perform diagnostic imaging procedures safely and professionally.
  • Schedule: Classes typically meet four to five days per week, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Clinical shifts are scheduled between the hours of 7am to 7pm and may occasionally include evenings or weekends.
  • Travel Requirement: Students must be prepared to travel to clinical sites within the College’s four-county service district, all located within approximately one hour of the Massey Campus.
