Fort Pierce, FL (March 10, 2025) – Indian River State College has once again solidified its place in collegiate swimming
history, capturing both the men's and women's titles at the 2025 NJCAA Swimming &
Diving Championships in Buffalo, New York. The River men secured their 51st consecutive
national title, while the women claimed their 47th overall championship, continuing
the longest championship streaks in any collegiate sport in the nation.
In a display of utter dominance, Indian River State College teams won an astounding 49 of 50 events throughout the four-day competition, shattering 21 NJCAA National Records in the process.
"We are incredibly proud of these student-athletes and coaches and the remarkable legacy they've continued. What they have accomplished is extraordinary," said Indian River State College President Timothy Moore. "This record of achievement exemplifies the highest level of collegiate competition and embodies the commitment to excellence that defines Indian River State College. Year after year, our swimming and diving program continues to set the standard for both regional institutions and collegiate athletics."
The championship was highlighted by several standout performances. Oliver Nell led the men's team with four individual national records in the 50 Freestyle (18.95), 50 Backstroke (20.99), 100 Backstroke (45.98), and 50 Butterfly (20.52). For the women, Aurora Zanin and Alexandra Andueza dominated their events, earning Female Swimmer of the Year and Female Diver of the Year honors, respectively.
"The level of performance we witnessed in Buffalo was remarkable," said Athletics Director Scott Kimmelman. "Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar with each championship. To win 49 of 50 events and break 21 national records speaks to the exceptional talent, dedication, and coaching that defines our program. This dynasty isn't just about winning championships; it is about developing champions both in and out of the pool."
Indian River State College Head Swimming Coach Sion Brinn, who was named NJCAA Male Swim Coach of the Year, attributed the team's continued success to their culture of excellence.
"These student-athletes push each other to be better every day," said Brinn. "Our success comes from their commitment to the process, their trust in our program, and their determination to uphold the legacy that's been built here. Breaking 21 national records this year shows that we are both winning and continuing to elevate the sport.
Diving Coach David Suba, who earned NJCAA Diving Coach of the Year honors, praised his divers' mental toughness and technical precision.
"Alexandra Andueza and Justin Halford were simply exceptional this year," Suba commented. "Their performances on both boards demonstrated tremendous composure under pressure. Setting new national records while maintaining such consistency speaks volumes about their preparation and focus. This team understands what it means to represent Indian River State College, and they embrace that responsibility with pride."
The championships also featured multiple relay records, highlighting the team's depth and collaborative excellence. Both the men's and women's teams set new marks in the 200 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Free Relay events. The men’s team also set a new 400 Medley Relay record.
The River swimming and diving program continues to serve as a launching pad for athletes moving on to four-year institutions and international competition, with many alumni competing at Division I programs and in Olympic Games.
