Indian River State College Celebrates Florida College System Month

April 16, 2025 Indian River State College

Fort Pierce, FL (April 16, 2025) – Indian River State College proudly joins institutions across the state in celebrating April as Florida College System Month, as officially proclaimed by Governor Ron DeSantis on March 28, 2025. This observance spotlights Florida’s 28 state colleges’ critical role in providing accessible, affordable, high-quality postsecondary education to nearly 680,000 students statewide.

“As we celebrate Florida College System Month, we are reminded of the important role institutions like Indian River State College play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities,” said Dr. Timothy E. Moore, President of Indian River State College. “We are proud to be part of a college system that consistently ranks first in the nation for public higher education and serves as the primary access point for Floridians to pursue their educational and career goals. This recognition allows us to highlight the tremendous impact our college and the entire Florida College System have on workforce development, economic growth, and student success.”

The Florida College System has maintained its #1 ranking by U.S. News & World Report for eight consecutive years, excelling as a leader in talent development through top-tier policies on student access, affordability, and outcomes. In the 2023-24 academic year, students across the system completed more than 135,000 degrees, certificates, and industry certifications, with 90% of 2022-23 workforce graduates employed or continuing their education in Florida.

Indian River State College continues to contribute significantly to these impressive statistics while also supporting Governor DeSantis’s strategic investments in workforce education. The College offers numerous high-demand programs in fields such as health sciences/nursing, business administration, and engineering. These programs align with the Governor’s $10 billion investment in workforce education since 2019 and help prepare students for competitive careers. According to the Governor’s Office, Florida College System graduates earn an average annual salary of $77,853 for a bachelor’s degree and $72,563 for an associate in science degree one year after graduation.

“At Indian River State College, we take immense pride in our role to serve the state’s workforce needs,” added Dr. Moore. “Our commitment to affordable, high-quality education aligns perfectly with the state’s vision, and we remain dedicated to helping our students develop in-demand skills and achieve their professional and personal goals.”
