Indian River State College Named Among Nation’s Most Affordable Colleges, Students Save Over $7,000 Annually

FORT PIERCE, FLA (July 2, 2025) – Indian River State College ranks as one of the most affordable four-year public institutions in Florida and the United States. The U.S. Department of Education published its annual College Affordability and Transparency List, placing Indian River State College on the Low Tuition List and on the Low Net Price List for the 2023-24 academic year. Indian River State College has held this distinction since the 2019-20 academic year.

Indian River State College’s tuition rate was less than one-third the national average, and its net price was less than half the national average. Tuition rates were based on in-state rates for full-time, first-time degree-seeking undergraduate students. The Net Price is the average yearly price charged to full-time, first-time undergraduate students receiving aid after deducting the aid received from their total cost of attendance, which includes tuition, books, supplies, and other expenses.

Tuition:

  • National Average: $8,784
  • Indian River State College: $2,764
  • Money Saved by Students: $6,020

Net Price:

  • National Average: $13,065
  • Indian River State College: $5,927
  • Money Saved by Students: $7,138

“When students save over $7,000 annually on their education, we’re not just reducing costs—we’re removing barriers to opportunity,” says Dr. Timothy E. Moore, President of Indian River State College. “Our commitment to affordability means students can focus on learning and building careers in high-demand fields without the burden of crushing debt. This recognition validates our belief that quality higher education should be accessible to every student who seeks it, regardless of their economic background.”

To ensure college costs remain low in the future, the College established initiatives such as the Promise Program in 2022, providing high school graduates of St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee counties an opportunity to obtain a tuition-free associate’s degree. Since its launch, thousands of students have taken advantage of Promise to pursue higher education at Indian River State College.

Additional College resources include financial aid advisors who work closely with students to ensure they take full advantage of scholarships, Pell grants, or other financial aid packages, and dedicated Military and Veteran Services that assist active-duty personnel, veterans, and their families with educational benefits, career transition support, and academic guidance.
